Project Description: The pedestrian bridge is supported by a prestressed, double tee member. It had been struck by a truck causing extensive cracking and damage to one stem of the tee.
Solution: The damaged concrete was removed and patched, and all cracks were injected. The carbon-based Tyfo® SCH-41 Composite System was then applied to the bottom of the stem to provide flexural capacity that may have been lost from damage to the prestressing strands. The glass-based Tyfo® SEH-51A was wrapped around the stem to encase the repair. As a finish, Tyfo® A Paint was applied over the installed composites to match the concrete color.
Summary: A heavily damaged member was structurally repaired using conventional concrete repair methods coupled with a robust FRP composite design and installation.
