Project Description: Several post-tensioned beams were damaged during the installation of new steel beam framing at various locations. The damage was in the form of broken tendons in the beams due to the drilling for the connections of the new steel beams.
Solution: The carbon-based Tyfo® SCH-41 Composite System was utilized to provide positive and negative bending capacity as well as shear capacity to the damaged beams. All of the reinforcement was provided below the parking slabs. Thus, all SCH-41 reinforcement was available for the application of the Tyfo® Advanced Fire Protection (AFP) System to provide a 2-hour fire rating to the system.
Summary: The entire system was only 1" thick and did not affect the already minimal head room of the parking garage levels.
