Project Description: During the rehabilitation of this building in Chicago, the contractor had multiple #4 bars delaminate from the top of the slab. The rehabilitation called for the repair of the slab which was in poor shape. The engineer had 2 choices – cut grooves in the slab and insert replacement reinforcing steel or apply FRPs to restore the missing steel capacity.
Solution: The GC priced both options and the Fibrwrap was awarded a contract to perform repairs on this slab. The substrate was in very rough condition and required some extensive surface preparation. FRPs were applied at all the locations where a reinforcing bar was missing.
Summary: The work was done in 2 days. A mixture of epoxy and sand was used to level the substrate. Sand was broadcast on the wet layup to ensure proper bond with the topping.
