Fort Leonard Wood, MO
Primary Care Hospital
Primary Care Hospital Project Description:
Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) were used to reinforce several existing beams in this building owned by the US Corps of Engineers. The beams had a shear deficiency and had to be strengthened to handle the new loading imposed by the modifications to the building..

Solution:
The Fyfe design included 2 layers of glass FRP. There was also a requirement for fire-proofing and a 2 hour UL rated Advanced Fire proofing (AFP) system was applied after the FRP installation.

Summary:
The challenges on this project were dust control and temperature conditions. The work was done in July during the period of high humidity in this part of the country. Dew point readings were used to ensure the substrate was not too humid. Fans were used to minimize dust and to keep the humidity to a minimum.

Fibrwrap had a scope that included FRP installation and AFP installation.
Despite the stringent safety and paperwork demands, the work was
completed on time and to the satisfaction of the USCE.
