The bridge is comprised of two hollow-core post-tensioned concrete bridge decks supported by abutments & two piers. Within the deck a series of post-tensioning cables were damaged due to corrosion and as a result there was a loss of tension resistance.
Solution:
Fibrwrap Installations provided a turn-key solution by installing 120 lf (2x60 lf layers) of the Fyfe Tyfo SCH-41/Tyfo S system providing the required strengthening. Because of freezing temperatures, the installation area had to be controlled by an easily erected enclosure and heaters were set in place to allow the system to cure.
Summary:
The overpass remained in operation during the quick, cost effective FRP installation. The Tyfo Fibrwrap installation was completed in a few hours and helped expedite the project as this approach to the MacKay Bridge is located at a very busy section into the city. |
