Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Project Description:
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) , since mid-2007, has utilized Fibrwrap® composites for the repair of more than 20 sections of Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP), all found to be deficient through electromagnetic and visual inspections. WSSC is executing a multi-year inspection program of all their PCCP lines in an effort to rehabilitate those sections that have become structurally deficient due to the premature failure of prestressing wires and cracking due to corrosion.

Solution:
Pipelines fully structurally repaired to date include diameters of 96-inch, 72-inch, 66-inch and 48-inch. Internal pressures have ranged from 75 psi to 200 psi, while depths of bury have ranged from 5-ft to 12-ft. In summer 2008, the municipality also repaired more than 300 deficient PCCP joints utilizing FibrJoint®.

Summary:
The key reasons Fibrwrap® is utilized by WSSC include time efficiency in which projects are completed, competitive costs, and the non-traditional trenchless method by which the repairs are conducted, eliminating the need for any trenching and re-digging of existing pipelines.
