Zorinsky Federal Building
Zorinsky Federal Building Project Description:
The building underwent a major renovation that included the removal of the center bay on a seven bay continuous waffle slab system to create an open atrium area.  The center bay was removed on two floors and the moment demands on the waffle slab sections redistributed.  Thus, mid-spans became end-spans next to the new open bay and flexural strengthening was required.

Solution:
The carbon-based Tyfo® SCH-41 Composite System was utilized to add flexural capacity to the waffle slab stems.  Additionally, the Tyfo® Advanced Fire Protection System was provided over the installed composite to give the system a UL 4-hour fire rating.

Summary:
The waffle slab was left exposed, thus the Tyfo® System provided an aesthetic, low-profile, fire-rated strengthening system.
